{Inspiration for Mother's Day}

Mr M is very good, I can't complain. But, I do often have to drop the odd hint when it comes to Mother's Day. So, to help the dads out there - and mums who are looking to get something special for grandma - here are a few ideas.

I just love these cute little keepsake books that I've recently launched. They were inspired by my Mother-in-law who insists on carrying all her Molly photos in a shabby envelope in her handbag to show her friends and pretty much anyone else who is in the local vicinity. These little brag books are a much neater alternative and come with lovely fabric covers and ties in a range of pretty colours.

As you can imagine I have a lot - a lot - of photographs, most of them are on my computer and occasionally see the light of day. When you invest in a photo shoot, it is important to also invest in displaying your photos proudly in your home.

I love creating storyboards for my clients - and now offer them framed - a family heirloom for the future. I think any mum on Mother's Day would just love to receive one with photos of their children or grandchildren. Hint, hint ;)

And if Mr M is having problems thinking of a few 'stocking fillers' for my Mother's Day gift here are a few more ideas. Oh, and chocs would go down well too ;)

Happy Valentine's Day

{Autumn at Chiswick House} baby photography in Chiswick

So, I'm sat at my laptop in my freezing kitchen-come-office (I have at least 6 layers on) - dreaming of the hazy, warm days of... November. 'What?' you say, 'November?' Yes - November! Look - gorgeous hazy sunshine and no coats, hats, gloves...

This was a dream shoot as it combined the golden light and colours of autumn with the lovely warmth of a summer's day. Little Tabitha was so inquisitive and playful - she loved the fallen leaves in the grounds of Chiswick House. It was the first time I'd visited Chiswick House and it was lovely to learn that Katherine, Tabitha's mum, had played in the park as a young girl.

It was so nice to finally meet the family - I had been waiting a long time (a friend had bought them a gift photo shoot for Tabitha's Christening). Weeks 1-4 of my 52 Project

OK - so my my plans to do a 365 project (a photo a day) didn't work out but so far so good at getting to week 4 of my 52 Project (a photo a week).

I want to try and document over the year how my gorgeous little girl grows. Life is full of moments but they are fleeting, and I want to capture memories that would otherwise be lost. I'm sure that in 10 years time I would have forgotten that she loves to wash her hands for what seems hours -just so she can play with the water - "washing mummy, washing!" Either that or she has a bad case of OCD (eek). So here's the first 4 weeks of 2012.

{Autumn in Bushy Park} Childrens photography in Teddington

Here's some photos from one of my favourite sessions of 2011 - a mini-session with Emma who was two and half years old. I love autumn and the colours in Bushy Park, Teddington, were gorgeous. Emma was so much fun and we had a great time feeding the ducks and running around the Woodland Gardens. I love the triptych of Emma peeping out behind the tree and it was such a treat to see it as a canvas - a Christmas gift for her grandparents.

{Welcome to the World Will} Baby photography in St Margarets, Twickenham

Happy New Year everyone - welcome to 2012! I'm really excited as to what this year will hold for my family and I. I'm also looking forward to photographing lots of families - some new and some who I've had the pleasure of meeting before.

One little person who I can't wait to see again is Will, who I met back in November, when he was just a few weeks old. All my newborn sessions are taken in the comfort of the baby's home using natural light. This is so important in getting natural photographs and in making everyone feel as comfortable as possible. Will's session was with his mummy and daddy at their gorgeous home in St Margarets, Twickenham (I fell in love with their commissioned Rob Ryan papercut) . We spent lots of time trying to get the very tired Will to drift off to sleep. As all parent's know - this is not an easy task, but patience was rewarded with some beautiful shots of him in a peaceful slumber.

I feel so lucky to be able to capture this little boy during his first year and can't wait to see him again in a few months time. For more on my Welcome to the World sessions click here.

May your days be merry & bright - Childrens photography in Richmond Park

Well, it's the night before Christmas and I couldn't pass the festive season without posting a few shots. This mini-session was for a friend of mine who wanted to have her niece, Abigail, photographed as a special Christmas surprise for her mum (Abigail's grandmother). The family were keen to have an outdoor session and the Isabella Plantation in Richmond Park was the perfect spot.

It was early autumn and even though the sky was dark and threatening rain, the colours in the Plantation were amazing. To add more colour I brought along a brilliant red balloon which went down well with Abigail. We had a lovely morning, splashing in puddles, playing hide and seek and searching for fairies.

Tomorrow, on Christmas Day, they will present Abigail's grandmother with a framed storyboard from the shoot - I wish I was a fly on the wall to see her opening it!

I'd like to wish all my friends, family and amazing clients a wonderful and happy Christmas - I hope your days are merry and bright!

{Welcome to the World Evie} Baby photography in East Sheen

Yay, I've finally got my blogging hat back on! I've been so busy snapping and editing in the lead-up to Christmas I've fallen behind sharing my latest shoots. I've had such a great couple of months and have met some amazing families and babies. This shoot has to be one of my favourites - little Evie who was only 3 weeks old when I photographed her and her gorgeous parents at their home in East Sheen.

It's a huge privilege to capture the early days of a new family and I could have snapped away forever as Evie fed and drifted off to sleep. Claire, Evie's mum, glowed with motherhood and I managed to get some lovely, tender shots of mum and daughter together - images that they will both be able to cherish for the rest of their lives. What a great job I have!

I'm really looking forward to going back to photograph Evie as she grows as this shoot was the first session from my new Welcome to the World package, a series of shoots that will capture the special moments of her first year. I can't wait to see how she changes!

Conkers & Pooh Sticks, children's photography in Bushy Park, Hampton Hill

I found it hard to pick just a few photographs to share from this shoot as we had such a great time playing around in Bushy Park. I photographed Toby and Sam in early October when the sky was blue - not grey, and the leaves were crisp - not damp! We met at Hampton Hill Gate were the family live and headed straight to the Water Gardens (boys whizzing on their scooters!) for a game of pooh sticks. Toby and Sam were experts at finding the 'right kind of sticks' to throw into the stream.

After a game of hide and seek and a hunt for the Gruffalo we then headed into the main park were I was happy to learn about the 'right kind of conkers' - we had to dismiss quite a few! After a snack to refuel I encouraged the family to have a a bit of fun and throw the leaves at each other. I didn't get off lightly though and ended up going home with quite a few leaves in my hair too!

Ice-cream-tastic birthday party photo shoot

Here are some photos from Molly's 2nd birthday party. Sorry, I'll start again, here are some photos from Molly's 2nd birthday party - before the children (and parents) arrived and devoured a whole summer's worth of ice-cream! We had such a great time and everyone enjoyed the 'make your own ice cream sundaes', cakes and party games - including a cuddle contest (Molly's dad was in charge of the entertainment!).

The theme of the party was inspired by the ice cream parlour we made Molly in our garden. My husband built it from scraps of wood left over from the decking he laid in the spring, I painted it with paint found in the shed and Nanna made the curtains. The only thing we had to buy was the curtain fabric - a whole play house for £10!

We had so much help from friends and family in getting ready for the party. Grandma made her famous sausage rolls and mini chocolate and strawberry meringues. They were so soft in the middle my next door neighbour is still talking about them! Cup cake cones were made by Susan from Miss Olivia Bakery in Weybridge and Molly's aunty made a fantastic pink bunny blancmange. The labels were free from one of my favourite blogs: Eat Drink Chic, just download, type what you want and print!

I still can't believe that it is 2 years since Molly was born, the time really has flown by and she has changed so much - good job I've been there with my camera to capture it all.

Autumn Days, Children's photography in Bushy Park, Teddington

Yesterday was a glorious, sunny, autumn day so off we went to the Woodland Garden in Bushy Park. It's such a beautiful place at this time of year and the light through the trees was amazing. Molly loved running through the leaves, kicking them up and playing with the "cups" of the acorns. I think she is going to be quite a naturalist, at one point even "cuddling" a tree. Enough was enough though at lunch time, waving "good-bye Mummy" - so off we headed to the Pheasantry Cafe for some food. I hope we can do the same all over again next week.

Bathtime with Isobel & Elena, Children photography in Fulham

Shhhh... this is a secret shoot, a surprise for Elena and Isobel's daddy, so please don't say a word! I met them last week at their home in Fulham on what must have been one of the hottest days of the year (so strange to think that a week later I'm wrapped up in my coat and scarf!). To cool off, the sisters had a bath which was so much fun to photograph - especially trying to dodge the water and bubbles from splashing my camera!

I met Hudson and Evelyn in early September, when we thought the summer had officially ended. The weather was so dreary we decided to do the family photo shoot at their home in St Margarets, rather than Marble Hill park where we had originally intended to go. Evelyn loves dancing and as soon as I arrived she started to get ready in her ballet dress and shoes. Twirling and pirouetting around her bedroom, she took me back to the days when I used to do the same - probably not so gracefully though!

Hudson, has the same amazing blue eyes as his sister and was a star in front of the camera. He was very tired so after playing a little he went down for a nap. I love photographing sleeping babies and so it was lovely to capture him while he dozed so peacefully.

Sneak Peek of Lynni & Jimmi's Oxfordshire Wedding at the Crazy Bear Stadhampton

I'm hoping the photos for this post say it all! This was my first wedding as a photographer and what was so special was that it was for my brother's best friend, Jimmi (my brother, Alex, was the Best Man and hecame in very handy organising the guests for their group photos!)

Although Jimmi and Lynne (or Lynni) live in York they choose to tie the knot at the very cool Crazy Bear Hotel in Stadhampton, Oxfordshire. The venue was very fitting as Lynne and Jimmi wanted an intimate day but with a colourful, vintage twist. I don't think they could have chosen a better place - or day - they were blessed with amazing sunshine.

Lynne made her bouquet herself from old buttons she begged and borrowed from friends and family, a locket hanging from the bouquet held treasured photographs of her grandparents. It was a special day for Lynne's two boys Thomas and Jensen too and they were very much involved, acting as witnesses and also reading a speech to their Mum (written by Jimmi!).

Jimmi is a very talented guitarist and as a surprise, he wrote a song for Lynne which he recorded and played during the wedding speeches - I don't think there was a dry eye in the house - including mine, it made it very hard to photograph!

I'm just back from my hols and am catching up on blogging and editing some shoots I did before I left. I'm lucky, I don't get the 'back to work' blues that most people get when they return from holiday! These photos are from a family photo shoot I did a few weeks ago, just before the leaves started to turn on the trees. Baby Mia who is 6 months lives with her mummy and daddy in Twickenham. I met them at their home and we had a lovely time playing (Mia especially liked my alphablocks, they spent most of the time in her mouth where she was growing some teeth!) before heading to the Crane River to take more photographs of the new family together.

Beside the seaside

I haven't posted any personal photographs for a while, just too busy working on my clients'!
I've been snapping away though, capturing my dear little Molly. Today we went to the beach at Aldeburgh in Suffolk for fish & chips. I love Aldeburgh, we spent some time here on our wedding day after our ceremony - the whole wedding party strolling along the beach, it was such a special day. There's a small boating pond so Molly sailed her boat and then we went on to Rendlesham Forest to play in the woods. She loved the play area and even went down the fireman's pole - supported by her daddy, grandma and grandad!

Arthur is very special, he's the son of my good friends Nick and Laura (Nick was the best man at our wedding). It was an honour to photograph him at only 6 weeks, although the offer of the shoot was to ensure plenty of cuddles! Emily & Connor, Teddington family photography

The weather forecast was threatening rain so we almost delayed this shoot with Emily and Connor. But, to our surprise, the sun decided to put his hat on - hip hip hip hurray! I had so much fun with the family playing in their beautiful garden at their home in Teddington.

Emily, like most two and a half year olds, flitted from playing in her Wendy House - to the trampoline -to her scooter, while her baby brother, Connor, napped inside. I couldn't resist sneaking in to take some photos of him while he slept, something I try and do on my baby shoots. When Connor, who is six months, woke he joined us in the garden for more fun - although for him this meant lounging around on a soft sheepskin rug.

After Emily had showed me her gorgeous bedroom it was time for me to leave, arriving home the heavens opened. How lucky we were!

Carson, Twickenham Family Photography

I know all babies are gorgeous but I have to say that little Carson, 6 months, is especially handsome. It must be in the genes, thanks to his equally lovely mummy and daddy, Monique and Nick. I couldn't wait to put these photos from a recent session up. Poor little Charlie had refused his morning nap (clearly excited at the anticipation of my arrival!) and so was in quite a sleepy state when I arrived at his gorgeous home in Teddington. We started in the bedroom where he was able to snuggle-up on the lovely soft sheepskin rug that I brought with me for the shoot. Anya, Charlie's mum, wanted some photos to mark him turning 6 months old. Like me, she tends to be the one behind the camera so wanted some relaxed photos of her and her little boy together.

Daisy, Chiswick family photography

I had been looking forward to meeting Jon, Jacque and Daisy for ages. Jon had bought a family portrait session as a gift for Jacque's birthday back in the spring and they wanted to have the photographs taken to celebrate Daisy turning 6 months. We had a lots of fun at their gorgeous home (I loved the cow painting in the kitchen!). Daisy with her amazing blue eyes, was a star. She has so much energy and is already a pro at sitting unaided - she'll be crawling in no time!

Frankie {part two}, Richmond family photography

I first met little Frankie back in February, when he was just 9 weeks old. He was so tiny but very tired and I remember him falling asleep in his daddy's arms, it was such a precious moment which I managed to capture on camera. Laura and Sean, Frankie's mum and dad were so happy with their photographs that they asked me to document Frankie's first year. So, last week, I met up with them again to photograph him at 7 months. It was amazing to see how much he had grown, he's so full of character and giggles! After taking some relaxed photographs of the family at their Richmond home we went on to Richmond Green, one of their favourite places. Frankie enjoyed rolling around on the grass and of course, some of his mum's ice cream!

Ivaan, Twickenham baby photography

It was the hottest day of the year when I met Ivaan and his Mummy and Daddy, Kalindi and Vijay. But the heat didn't affect this cool little cucumber! He hardly grumbled at all. We had lots of fun playing in the garden and cooling off inside the house. Ivaan enjoyed lots of cuddles and kisses and just about survived being eaten alive by his adoring daddy. Check out those gorgeous cheeks - how could you resist!

Baby Oliver

Last week I met little Oliver who is 7 months old. He was quite sleepy (I think he knew I was coming so refusedhis usual morning nap!). When the time was right we put him down in his cot. I love photographing sleeping babies so I continued to snap away while he slept. After a cup of tea and a few Oreos with his lovely Mummy and Daddy, Kelly and David, he woke and we continued the shoot. I wish I could wake up that refreshed!

A few weeks ago I spent a lovely, sunny, afternoon with Rafa, Freddie and Henry in a communal garden in Kensington. It was such a peaceful place, moments from the buzz and excitement of Kensington High Street. Freddie and Henry are brothers and their cousin, Rafa, was visiting so, not to miss the opportunity of getting the boys together, I was asked to come along to take some photographs. We had a fun afternoon; running around, playing football and hiding from the Gruffalo!

A day in the life: 19 months and 12 days old

Yesterday I finally got around to doing my 'Day in the life' project for Molly. I wanted to create a photo-story of a typical day, so when she is older, she can see how she spent her days as a child. I plan to make lots as she grows! So this is it - Sunday 5th June 2011, Molly is 19 months and 12 days and wow how she has grown and changed! She maybe tiny but as you tell from the photographs she already has a huge personality.

Family holiday in Devon

A few weeks ago we spent 4 beautiful days in Devon, the weather was glorious and every day was an adventure. We found some beautiful beaches to build sand castles (how I love the feel of sand beneath my toes!) and enjoyed some lovely food too, thank you Mr Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall. We stayed at a lovely, family-friendly, farm and Molly couldn't get enough of the chickens and bunnys, and the hammock in the apple orchard!

Family day out, West Whittering family photography

I love the sand between my toes so at the first glimmer of sunshine we packed our bags and headed to one of our favourite beaches - windy West Whittering. This was our first trip to the beach since Molly started walking a month or so ago, of course she loved it too. The first of many seaside adventures I'm sure.

How lucky could we have been, booking this photo shoot weeks ago, to have a beautiful spring day with the trees in full blossom. Charlotte and Sebastian were a delight to photograph and we had lots of fun at the Woodland Garden in Bushy Park. We started with a game of hide and seek (Charlotte's an expert), hunting for fairies and even green parakeets - we found a pair in one of the trees. I bought some balloons for the children which they loved, although we did lose one. I wonder where it flew to?

This is adorable Eloise, I met her a few weeks ago to photograph her at home in Woking. When I arrived she was happily bouncing around in her door bouncer which she clearly loved. We had lots of fun playing around with various props and toys but this has to be one of my favourites from the session. Sometimes less is more, especially with beautiful brown eyes like hers.

A day in the life of my kitchen

From top left. Kitchen scales; a birthday present from my work colleagues a few years back now. They've had plenty of use (more my husband than me I'm afraid!). Molly crayoning in her PJs; the colours she didn't want ended up on the floor, she does that with her food too! Ice Cream sign; This is very special to me. We had our photo taken by this sign on our wedding day. A year later, (when I was pregnant with Molly) we went back to the beach in Aldeburgh, Suffolk to find it in the same place, broken into two, leaning against a fisherman's hut. We asked the owner of the ice-cream shop if he ever used it and he said we could have it - the best wedding anniversary present ever! White Ranunculus; one of my favourite flowers. I had them everywhere at my wedding!

The Isabella Plantation in Richmond Park has to be one of my favourite places to go, it's especially beautiful in Spring when the trees are in full bloom. I love blossom, such delicate, pretty flowers; every year you'll find me trying to photograph as much of the stuff as possible. I wish it lasted longer!

I had the pleasure of being asked to photograph little baby Ella when she was only 11 days old. We had to spend a lot of time comforting and feeding her as she was so new into the world but the cuddles paid off and I even managed to capture a smile thanks to her favourite little friend 'Bunny'.

Hurrah! Finally I have someone to enjoy pancakes with (my hubby is not a fan to his loss) and, even better, Molly is quite a cook - she wouldn't let the whisk go and insisted on stirring the mixture for a good 20 minutes or so. Control freak in the making, perhaps, but the result was as delicious as the photos I snapped along the way! Yummy, good job Molly.

Theo, baby photography in Twickenham

I had the pleasure of photographing the adorable Theo last week at his beautiful home in Twickenham. What a delight! He was such a happy, smiley little chap and was a star in front of the camera. I spent a good hour watching him role around on his mummy and daddy's bed and playing with his favourite toy - Geoffrey the Giraffe. But it was his amazing blue eyes that stole the show for me!

Home sweet home, Richmond upon Thames

We've lived in Richmond for 9 years or so now, and I'm so happy it's our home. This photograph was taken last weekend, just before a shower of rain, up on Richmond Hill. Molly was sleeping in her buggy and we had just enjoyed a cake and coffee at the delicious Richmond Hill Bakery. The view from the hill always impresses me - I can't wait to go back when the trees are in full blossom!

So many people have commented on Molly's beautiful long eyelashes; I've tried for a while to photograph them and this has to be my favourite by far. I wish I had eyelashes like hers, we think she inherited them from her Gramps so it must have skipped a generation.

On Saturday I was lucky enough to photograph beautiful Venetia for the second time in a month. Her mum was very keen to have photos taken of their gorgeous vintage silvercross pram but on the day of the first shoot the rain was so bad we had to stay indoors. Baby blue eyes

Yes I'm biased, but I cannot get enough of Molly's baby blue eyes. Here's a photo from today, taken while we were playing in the lounge. She lay still for just a few moments; captivated by the leaves on a tree outside rustling in the wind. Half a minute later she was rolling around, giggling again.

I'm afraid we have been a bit slack on the blog front of late. You see we've been very, very busy: clapping, waving and high five-ing. Not much on the crawling side-of-things yet, but it won't be too long now so we've had lots of tummy-time practice. Oh, and we've grown 2 teeth too.

My little girl

Just a little over 8 months ago my life changed forever when little Molly was born 4 weeks early. During her short life I have watched her grow from a small 5lb baby into the beginnings of a little girl who, like her daddy, thinks mainly of her next meal and will eat pretty much anything (even olives!!). She's experienced a lot already: a glorious autumn, snowy winter, the beauty of spring blossoms and now a lovely, balmy summer. I think this photo, taken while picnicking in Marble Hill, hints a little at the future Molly, I'm so excited to be part of her life and so proud she is my little girl.

We've just spent a week in Provence with some friends and their family. It was our first with children so there was plenty of entertainment for the adults. Little Macie pictured above is only 2 years but she already has big and gorgeous personality. Whenever she appeared she would proclaim 'Here I am!' - as if we could forget her!

Little Errol by Lucy Jane Batchelor

My friend Lucy from Devon has lots of lovely little friends including Little Errol who she makes herself from reclaimed woollen blankets. Although he and his companion Squeaky Beryl are not suitable for young children (apparently he likes to chew on them), Lucy has designed these lovely birth announcement cards featuring the two characters. There are dozens of similar cards and gifts on her website, including an enamel pin version of Little Errol (M has one attached to her buggy which we found in Heirloom on Crown Road, St Margarets).
